Here's my pick on the Green Bay-Virginia game:
ReplyDeleteBesides their loss against the division-leading Harvard Crimson, Green Bay has been playing exceptionally well this season. In their second game vs ranked Wisconsin, the Phoenix just fell short by three points after a potential buzzer-beater by Keifer Sykes, who scored over thirty points that game, hit the rim.
Virginia’s record has been more impressive but most of these were meaningless wins against bad teams. They have played and lost against two ranked teams this season, one of them being against Wisconsin, who has managed to crack the top ten. This game was played in their home stadium, where they have been 5-1 in, and they still lost by ten points. The Cavaliers were completely shut down offensively, shooting a dreadful 1-of-11 from three-point range. This was against Wisconsin, who allows 66.3 points, excluding their win over Virginia. Even in Virginia’s first game vs a ranked team, they shot just 1-of-8 from three-point range. So as stated, you can see that the Virginia shooting tends to malfunction when playing against even mediocre teams.
In order for Virginia to be able to win this they should take far less shots than they currently do, because it is not working out for them. Green Bay needs to immediately decrease the amount of fouls they regularly committed, as they allowed six straight free throws to lose any chances of winning in the Harvard game.
I would say that Green Bay will barely come out with the win because Virginia has an outstanding defense and that will be tested against a superb scorer like Keifer Sykes, who has been averaging 26.5 points vs Division I opponents.
This could likely go the other way, but I wouldn't have a lot of confidence on any side.
